I would say TAMU is one of the best universities in the country (especially for civil and mechanical engineering). Even in current economic crisis many students from University have Job offer in hand, and thats saying a lot!!!

As every student who wants to come to USA, I gave GRE and TOEFL as part of admission process. I did not take any tuition for it. I did my studies on my own using books available and online tests. Orkut community of GRE is also helpful in preparing for the exam as students taking exam post the questions from their own exam. I needed a VISA to come to USA. I used service of counselor in Mumbai for my application process and VISA documents preparation. VISA interview went really good. Some very simple questions were asked. Being confident and genuine is the key in VISA process. My university is in College Station, Texas which is about 2hrs away from Houston. Though College station has an airport but only Continental and American Airlines fly there. It is very easy to get tickets for Houston as many airlines have daily flights to Houston. Every airline offers student fare towards July end and in the month of August. It’s just the matter of finding a good deal. I flew by Continental Airline to Houston as I got the cheapest deal from them at that time. I did not like Continental that much. My immigration was done at Newark Airport which was my first stop. It went pretty good. There is a shuttle service from Houston airport to college station. They have their particular schedule. If you are going to Houston you need to book this shuttle well in advance because it gets full very early for peak months. India Association at TAMU has collaboration with shuttle service and they arrange special rides from Houston to College Station in months of July and August. So if you are coming to TAMU the best and the safest way of fixing your mode of transport is Indian Association. Register on their site and they will in most cases take care of you.

Funding scenario is also pretty good. If you stretch yourself a little bit, there is a chance of getting some sort of Funding.

My program was introduced just few years back and the professor who introduced the program left the university. So, if you are coming for Infrastructure there is no particular professor who is in charge of the program. But in general all the professors in Civil engineering department will help if you have any issue or problem.

As most of the Indian students coming to USA for graduation, I also dont live on campus. I with my friends have rented a house in a nearby area. University offers everything from libraries, labs to one of the best and biggest recreation centre in the country. Plenty of on campus jobs are available for students who want to work. College Station is a young city with student population of about 50000. Night life in city may not be as great as other cities in USA but its good enough to enjoy your Friday. Almost all the clubs and pubs in the city are located at Northgate which is very close to university. There are many student organizations which conduct various events during the year.

There is Career Centre which takes care of all the Job related activities such as info sessions with various companies and organize two career fairs during the year. Barring current economic crisis, TAMU students never have to worry about jobs.
