Check on the research going on...University Of Alabama

- University Of Alabama, USA
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry
My advice to future students will be to look at the University profile, see the research going on and then decide whether have to come here or not. The research you are doing or the project you are working is more important than the type of course work you are taking.
GRE and TOEFL are required for International students. Prepared for exams by self, no coaching. Of course we need a VISA. The VISA interview was cool. It is easy to get tickets. I came by KLM airlines, and it was pretty good. No idea of student discount on airfare. I landed at Birmingham, Alabama. It is 60 miles away from university. There were no immigration issues. Baggage was 23+23 Kgs check in, 7 kgs cabin. The Indian community of the University provides a ride from airport to institution. They also look after accommodation.
Lot of different scholarships are available, mostly graduate assistantship for International students.
The academic program has been structured very well.. My proff is very nice. Lecture hall and libraries are good. U can find most of the references you need.
I live off campus. No idea about sports facilities, but students have free access to go to University recreation center. You can find jobs in library, no idea about in the city. People are nice here. The weather is really extreme here, in winter it goes upto -4 degrees C and summer is very hot and humid.
Campus placements are there for engineering students, not for science students. You can get work permit easily, people over here are friendly and understanding. We do have an Alumni society, but no idea how effective it is.
